SCVO and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU)

Is reducing health inequality about improving health services, or realising our social and economic rights?"

Join SCVO and Glasgow Caledonian University for an informed and challenging debate exploring the role of human rights in reducing health inequality.
Date: Thursday 28th November, 2.00pm - 4.00pm
Venue: The Mews, Edinburgh (NASUWT, 35 Young Street North Lane, EH2 4JD)

What's the debate about?

SCVO and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) are continuing our series of thought-provoking human rights debates in conjunction with our work-based Masters in Citizenship and Human Rights programme.
In this next debate we will be focusing on health inequality, an area of increasing concern for Scotland with the gap in levels of health and life expectancy between the richest and poorest people in our society continuing to widen.
We will debate the medical and social models of improving health, and explore the role that realising our social and economic human rights (including our right to an adequate standard of living, social security, employment, education and housing) has to play in addressing the root causes of health inequality in Scotland.
  • Hear from our debate panellists as they draw on their own views and experiences
  • Consider the role human rights has to play in reducing health inequality
  • Leave with new ideas to reflect on within our organisations
  • Contribute to and inform human rights research and programme development at Glasgow Caledonian University
