Project SEARCH is an exciting initiative that began in Cincinnati in 1996, which aims to bring significant numbers of people with a learning disability and autism into competitive paid employment. It is a partnership bringing together relevant organisations to work together effectively, between a host business, education and adult supported paid employment. The goal is to provide on-site internship experiences, acquire necessary skills for young adults with learning disabilities leading to competitive employment which to date has been very impressive. We are delighted to offer a pre-conference dinner and overview on Tuesday 24th June and all day conference on Wednesday 25th June offering delegates the opportunity to find out about this exciting model and how we can reach for the ultimate goal: employment for all Project SEARCH graduates!

This 2 day conference will celebrate all that has been achieved in Europe to date and looks to the future. Contributors will discuss the potential of Project SEARCH to make a real difference to the lives of young people with a learning disability or autism and the strategies required to support growth.

A key issue in the conference will be continuous improvement: enabling job coaches, educators, businesses and policy advisors to meet and learn from one another. We are aiming to make this conference informing, challenging and an opportunity to connect with colleagues establishing Project SEARCH across Europe and the US. There will also be a range of inspirational speakers and a variety of workshops to suit all levels of interest and lots of exciting discussion! Masters programme visit the GCU MSc in Citizenship and Human Rights

Do the values of dignity, participation and accountability connect with the work that you do?

Are you interested in promoting the principles of human rights, such as participative democracy and social responsibility?

Do you want a qualification that recognises and supports the vital day-to-day work you already do?

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) are working together to deliver a 'Work Based Learning' Masters in Citizenship and Human Rights.

You can find out more about the programme and apply on the GCU website, or alternatively contact a member of the SCVO team using the details at the bottom of this page.

What our students have said...

"I feel much more confident and have been able to apply the learning to my work, including my international work with World YWCA, applying a human rights based approach to our work in Scotland, and analysing our strategic plan. I have also been able to share practice with other students from a variety of organisations that I would not have had contact with otherwise."
Rachael O'Byrne, YWCA Scotland

"I have really enjoyed the course. The support in delivering a work-based project is great as it helps you work on a real issue, identify what you are trying to change and how best to go about it. It has built my confidence and skills to deliver training in-house which is more practical and cost-effective than sourcing an external provider. Being part of a mixed student group has also been great for sharing a wide range of personal and professional experiences"
Liz Scott, Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE)
