Whilst there was a
lot of publicity earlier this year on Mary Portas’ report on the “Future of the
High Street” in England, more important for local businesses is the recently
published National Review of
Scottish Town Centres which makes a series of
recommendations which could benefit you the City Centre businesses and
the wider Scottish economy.
As we know
Scotland’s town and city centres are facing challenging times and so BID are
delighted to offer you the unique opportunity to hear from Malcolm Fraser
(Chair of the Review Group) and feedback to him your thoughts on how to
strengthen the business economy.
The meeting will
also be attended by representatives of the Highland Council & you will have
the opportunity to tell them what you feel Inverness City Centre needs.
Venue:
Mercure Hotel,
Church Street, Inverness
Date:
Wednesday 18th September
2013 - 5.45pm for 6pm until 7pm
Speaker:
Malcolm Fraser – Chair of “Scotland’s National Review of Town Centres”
Come along and hear
Malcolm talk about the key recommendations and proposals from the Review which
include:
Ø A ‘town centre first’ principle whereby public bodies must consider how
they can support town centres before allowing development elsewhere
Ø Working with housing providers to bring empty town centre properties
back into use as affordable housing
Ø A town centre focus and the potential local business rates
incentivisation schemes
Ø A recommendation that public bodies must fully consider the impact of
any proposals to relocate services out of town centres
Ø Broadening the appeal of town centres with a mix of leisure, public
facilities and homes
You can download a full copy the Review from the Scottish Government’s
website via this link: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Built-Environment/regeneration/town-centres/review)
Book now to hear how Malcolm sees the National Review re-energising our
city centre!
The Event starts at 5.45pm for 6pm finishing by 7pm. As always
the event and refreshments are complimentary. We do hope that you will be able to join us.
