Highland Health Inequality Forum meeting

Highland Health Inequality Forum

Still time to register for our next meeting

Wednesday 12th March, 11.00am - 1.00pm
Fairways House, Fairways Business Park, Inverness. IV2 6AA
GUEST SPEAKER: David Reilly, Community Health Exchange (CHEX)
The Highlands and Islands Equality Forum (HIEF) and the Highlands Third Sector Interface (HTSI) invite members of the third sector in Highland to get involved in a new health inequality focussed forum. The forum will support third sector organisations and community groups in their work to reduce health inequality in Highland.

What is this meeting about?

Background

In September last year we arranged a meeting of third sector representatives in Highland interested in exploring how we can work together to reduce health inequality.

At this meeting people expressed an interest in progressing four main aims:

Increasing awareness and understanding of the social and economic causes of poor health and health inequality

Having a strong and effective voice to promote the third sector's important contribution in preventing poor health and reducing health inequality

Strengthening the great work already happening by sharing ideas and experiences and exploring new opportunities together

Further developing the third sector's role in the design and delivery of public services related to health inequality through community planning and public sector partnership working

Taking things forward

The next meeting on 12th March will be an opportunity for members of the third sector in Highland to come together and discuss how we can take forward these aims.

HIEF will update the forum on the progress that we have made since the initial meeting and set out our plans for HIEF and HTSI to help take the forum forward over the coming months.

Learning from elsewhere

One of the things people have expressed an interest in is learning from similar initiatives elsewhere in Scotland.

With this in mind we are delighted that David Reilly from Community Health Exchange (CHEX) will be attending this meeting to provide CHEX's insight and experiences with us about some of the other community-led approaches to reducing health inequality that are happening in Scotland.

Who should get involved in this forum?

Third sector organisations, community groups and individuals active in their community in Highland.

How can I get involved?
